Walled City of Jajce is an Old City of Jajce, encircled with approximately 1300 meters walled and natural (the Vrbas and the Pliva rivers) fortification, with main Citadel of Jajce at the top of pyramidal hill, and the walls with three large towers (Medvjed-Tower, Great Tabija tower and Small Tabija tower), two large gates (Travnik Gate and Banja Luka Gate), another tower situated in the city on the way to a citadel which is used as clock tower, hence the name Clock Tower. Citadel is fortified with large wall also (often called Fortress of Jajce, or Jajce Castle), with defense towers and the main portal, while only existing tower within citadel is Gunpowder Tower. It was founded and started developing in the Middle Ages and acquired its final form during the Ottoman period. There are several churches and mosques built in different times during different rules, making Jajce a rather diverse town in this aspect. It is declared National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with several natural and culture-historical sites outside the walls also included, and is subsequently placed on UNESCO Tentative List.[1]
